Man Cave Makeover
For this project, BLB Custom Building teamed up with local and renowned interior designer Katie Goodrich of Ivory & Bone and Vesta Architecture. Originally an unfinished basement below a Victorian house in Newburyport, MA., this new space was totally transformed into the ultimate man cave.
Including a billiard space, game room, and exercise room, the man cave is fitted with countless unique features. Throughout the entire space, BLB’s crew began with removing the old linoleum flooring and installed dark walnut floating floors. Custom wooden ceiling panels, sourced from a European home decor shop and provided by Ivory & Bone, were also installed throughout the entire space, plus custom metal wraps around the existing ductwork.
In the billiard space, a custom helmet wall was constructed for the homeowner to display some of his prized NFL possessions. The helmet wall included three in-wall niches, covered in fabric wall coverings that resemble gun metal cladding and trimmed with Schluter edging. To separate the billiard space and exercise room, a traditional French Barn Door - with a custom-made bracket by Carriage Hill Craft Metals - was installed. Exiting the billiard space, a new three-sided transparent fireplace and bar area were framed and wrapped with a tile surround. Other features of the bar area included wall-mounted swivel barstools for added space and convenience, a custom bar cabinet with a fridge and ice maker, and a brick veneer accent wall.
The game room features a wall-mounted flat screen TV, plus a projector and drop-down screen - a perfect setup for watching the big game. BLB’s crew installed a Moroccan door to divide the game room with the rest of the basement and to add another fun feature piece. To conclude, the finished basement was entirely furnished and designed by Ivory & Bone, who was able to capture and execute the homeowner’s vision perfectly - resulting in a fantastic man cave makeover.
