Post & Beam Remodel
This project was a complete home renovation with a third floor dormer addition. We removed a large chimney at the center of the home to allow the downstairs to be more open and join the living and dining spaces together. We framed the ceiling of the kitchen with new rough sawn timbers to give it the appearance of the original home but also because the head space was limited. The floors were character grade white pine with a custom blend stain and the kitchen was fully custom with an island that incorporated two structural posts into the design without taking away from the aesthetic. The third floor was converted to additional living space by adding a staircase with custom storage below to make use of every nook and cranny. In the attic we carried through the exposed beam look and applied rough cut timbers to give it the post and beam look.
"Excellent overall experience. BLB Custom Building worked with me to renovate my home which was originally built around 1850. Ben did a great job providing me with a very detailed cost estimate, and change orders as the job progressed. The reconstruction and craftsmanship is outstanding, and well-matched to retain the character of my colonial home. The BLB team has the knowledge, foresight, and experience needed to work with older homes. I am very happy with the end result, and highly recommend BLB Custom Building."
