2021: The Year of the Whole House Remodel

With 2020 behind us, BLB Custom Building is prepared to begin new projects throughout 2021. This year, we have a number of exciting projects ranging from whole house remodels to exterior additions, with a majority of our projects being within the Greater Newburyport Area - however, this year our team is traveling a bit farther to complete one of our biggest projects to date. Below, read more about our upcoming projects and when you can expect to see the completed transformations.

Ipswich River Whole House Remodel

Situated on the Ipswich River in Ipswich, MA, this project includes a whole house remodel with extensive repairs to the interior and exterior of the home. Built in the late 1990s and in need of some serious TLC, our crew will be working collaboratively with interior designer, Ivory & Bone, and architect, Vesta Architecture, to remodel this river-front property into the owner's dream house, which is scheduled to be completed by May of 2021.

First, our crew was tasked with demolishing the first floor in order to accommodate new framing and layouts, including the redesigned kitchen and master bathroom. Next, the team removed every existing window and replaced each opening with energy-efficient Marvin units that offer a direct view to the Ipswich River. Once the windows are complete, our crew and skilled subcontractors will jump on the interior fit-out stage and begin upgrading the home with modern and elegant fixtures, finishes, and hardware. Outside of the home, the existing deck was completely removed in order to accommodate a new 1,500 sq. ft. deck, which will be finished with grooved decking.

Little's Farm Whole House

Another whole house remodel, this project is located near the historic Spencer-Little-Pierce Farm in Newbury, MA and includes a second floor addition, an expansive new deck, and a total interior renovation. BLB Custom Building will also work collaboratively with Ivory & Bone and Vesta Architecture to complete the Little's Farm Whole House project, which is scheduled to be completed in June of 2021.

At the start of the project, crews gutted the interior of the home and removed a section of the house to prep for the new foundation and addition. The crew also removed various walls to prepare for the expansion and redesign of future rooms. Nearly 1,100 sq. ft. of space will be added with the second floor addition, which will house the future master bedroom and ensuite and expand the homeowner's first floor living room. Other features include four new Velux skylights above the kitchen, a dedicated pantry room, and a Juliet balcony off of the master bedroom.

Front Porch Addition

While not a whole house remodel, the Front Porch Addition is one of our most highly anticipated projects this year, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of February 2021. Located across the street from the Merrimack River in Newburyport, MA, this Colonial home will include a new 680 sq. ft. deck with custom columns, high-end decking, and a flat welded copper roof. Designed by Latady Design, LLC., this front porch will include a hip roof with a barrel extension, fiberglass columns, mahogany features such as the exterior crown and railing cap, and groove boards along the ceiling.

Additionally, once the porch is complete, various materials, such as the roof and decking, will transform over time. The decking to be installed includes Thermory Ash decking which "evolves" from a dark brown to a cool silver, which is a result of the wood's natural aging process and environmental elements, such as the sun and rain. The flat welded copper roof will patina between 7-10 days following the install, providing the roof with an extra layer of protection and enhance the aesthetic appeal.

Along with these three projects, BLB Custom Building will be busy throughout the year , with our schedules filling up with additional whole house remodels, second story additions, smaller kitchen and bathroom remodels, completing the Industrial History Center project, and collaborating with local businesses to complete a variety of local projects and initiatives such as the Amesbury Police Department Balcony facelift.

Once completed, each project will be uploaded to our online portfolio for full details and photos. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to join us along our 2021 journey and receive weekly updates regarding our projects.
